Indian Head Massage, known as “Champi,” has been practiced for many centuries as part of the family health care. Indian mothers would massage their babies’ hair, head, neck and shoulders to stimulate growth and relaxation. This is primarily a hands-on class and incorporates three principle strokes and techniques, which include a form of acupressure (Sattva, Raja, Tamas), learn to apply oils and learn a revitalizing and relaxing treatment.

Purpose of Workshop:

  • How to incorporate massage, oils and pressure point technique in 45 minutes
  • Explanation of the Ayurvedic understanding of the life force Prana, meditation and the philosophy behind Ayurvedic massage
  • How to evaluate, analyze and treat the client as an individual
  • The three different types of massage suited for each individual
  • An explanation of functions of and locations of the marmas (pressure points)
  • Location and explanation of the nadi (meridian system)
  • Discussion of the choice of appropriate essential oils, herbs and their energetic qualities for each individual client
  • How to apply the three principle strokes: satvic, rajastic and tamassic

What to Bring:  Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to your neck. A set of sheets, face cradle cover, personal blanket, your favorite lubrication and a hand towel.  Wear comfortable clothes and bring materials to take notes. Essential oils are provided by the instructor and these are usually used: Rosemary, Sandalwood, Lavender, Peppermint, Frankincense, Patchouli and blends.  Wolfgang asked you to come with an open mind. He provides oils used in the class and usually has some to sell, if desired. Massage tables are provided.

A lunch break will be taken midday. You may bring your lunch, or eat at one of the many restaurants located nearby.

This therapy is a natural, gentle, non-confrontational way of healing physical and psychological ailments with the combined use of: Tui-Na - Chinese Medical Massage, Energy Touch, Myofascial meridian therapy, muscle energy techniques, Chi Nei Tsang (Internal Organ Massage) and Homeopathy. Our bodies are composed of an energy field with specific currents and positive and negative charges that run on a 24-hour cycle.  These currents run along Myofascial meridian lines which converge on all joints and are accessed by acupressure points.

The student becomes skilled inm the combined use of:

  1. Myofascial meridian therapy (New!)
  2. Neurolymphatic pressure point technique
  3. Active/Isolated and passive stretches for fascia and joints and the meridians
  4. Postural analysis before and after treatment
  5. The use of Jade Gua Sha Tools

This course has been referred to as Medical Rehab Massage!  Areas of interest:

This course is designed for massage therapists who would like to begin to incorporate aromatherapy into their massage practices. Mary Beth Crawford, LMT introduces the beginner to a short list of pure essential oils, which can be used alone or in combination, to address a range of client’s physical and emotional needs.

The course will cover:

  1. A beginner’s list of 10 pure essential oils, which are useful in a massage practice
  2. A discussion of the basic qualities of the ten oils, their common uses, and the conditions associated with each on the list.
  3. An introduction to the qualities of different carrier oils, lotions, and balms, and which massage modality or client need is best addressed by each
  4. Basic instruction in how to blend essential oils
  5. Hands-on experience in blending oils to create custom products for use in your massage practice
  6. The ethics and safety of use, including methods of introducing oils during intake
  7. Techniques for applying oils “on the fly” in a massage, tailored to client goals, as well as the needs observed by the therapist during a session
  8. The orientation of this class is practical, rather than scientific, and is intended for beginners only. You will learn techniques and create products that can be immediately integrated into your practice. A materials fee is included in the cost of the course.

Please do not wear any fragrances to class so that everyone will be able to appreciate the beauty and power of working with the essential oils.

What to Bring:  Set of sheets/face cradle cover/blanket for personal usage each day.  Essential oils will be provided. You may want to bring note taking items.  A manual and information is included in the class.  Massage tables are provided.
