Course Description
A prenatal massage is often the only time that a client may experience nurturing touch during pregnancy.
This course will dispel myths and provide massage therapists with techniques for imparting nurturing touch to physically and emotionally support clients throughout their prenatal and postpartum experience.
In this Prenatal Massage course, therapists will develop confidence and comfort with treating pregnant clients. Students will delve into the technical aspects of pregnancy including contraindications and the emotional, anatomical & physiological changes that take place during each trimester. The course will also include discussion and techniques for caring for postpartum clients, an often overlooked area.
Students will leave this class with side-lying techniques to treat key areas of prenatal discomfort, including: hips, low back, abdomen, neck & shoulders. These techniques will emphasize fascial work to relieve muscular restrictions, improve circulation and create space for the client as their body grows and changes. Students will leave class with a 60-min side lying prenatal routine and a semi-reclined sequence.
Throughout the course, students will have opportunities for hands-on work to practice positioning, draping and massage techniques. Course work will emphasize body mechanics and a variety of client positioning and draping options to ensure comfort. During the last day of class, students will massage a pregnant client.
